Longitudinal | Selective

Medical Spanish for Beginners is a longitudinal selective that gives students an opportunity to learn the basics of Spanish with a focus on communicating and connecting with Spanish-speaking patients in a clinical setting. This selective, designed for students with little or no prior experience with the language.

Military Medicine in Austere Environments

1-2 weeks | Global Health, Selective

Students participate in a course that trains medical professionals, military, and first responders in limited resource medical care. Curriculum delivered will be a combination of didactic presentations, case presentations, hands-on skills stations, simulations, and Procedural Skills Lab activities.

Mindfulness

Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

1-2 weeks | Selective

Students will work directly with staff consultants & Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery fellows in both the outpatient & inpatient setting in direct patient contact. Anticipated patients will be women with fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic pain, adenomyosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, and post-menopausal bleeding.

MNsure Navigators

Longitudinal | Selective

At the REACH clinic, we often see patients who are uninsured. They often qualify for subsidized coverage, e.g., MN Care, MA, etc. These patients often need assistance with enrolling in this kind of coverage. As a Certified MNsure Navigator you will meet with patients to help them enroll.

Molecular Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics (M.D./M.S.)

Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (MPET) is a field that melds discovery of basic biological mechanisms with translation of those findings into understanding the molecular basis for disease and the discovery/development of novel therapies for human disease.

Multidisciplinary Oncology

The oncology selective encompasses oncologic care across multiple disciplines (including medical oncology, hematology-oncology, surgery, radiation oncology, and pathology) blended with didactic lectures on clinical and research topics and peer-to-peer debriefing times.

Neighborhood Christian Clinic

3-8 weeks | Selective

The Neighborhood Christian Clinic is a faith-based healthcare organization that provides care to uninsured patients in Phoenix, AZ. This selective provides the clerkship/post-clerkship phase student the opportunity to develop their ability to evaluate and manage acute and chronic illnesses seen in the primary care setting. Students will be encouraged to use a holistic approach to promote healthy lifestyles.

Neonatal Medicine

3-8 weeks | Selective

Students are assigned to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital and take part in the activities of the service. If students have an interest in NICU follow-up clinic, they can attend an afternoon with one of the Neonatology Fellows.
