Plastic Surgery

Students will join the Plastic Surgery team and participate on patient rounds in the OR, in clinic and at conferences. Students will become familiar with basic plastic surgery terms, conditions and various methods of plastic surgical reconstruction.

Plastic Surgery Experience

The Plastic Surgery Experience aims to increase engagement and interest amongst the medical student body regarding the specialty of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Hoping to provide the benefit of producing long-term mentorships that will assist medical students in the pursuit of their future careers.

Plastic Surgery Journal Club

Longitudinal | Selective

In this selective, students will learn how to summarize medical literature, interpret study design and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the article. Students will improve their ability to critically evaluate literature and apply these analytical skills in their own scientific writing.

Plastic Surgery: Advanced Wound Care

1-2 weeks | Selective

A one week selective focusing on furthering understanding of the basics of wound care management and the role of plastic surgeons in clinical decision making and patient care.

Poetry in Medicine

1-2 weeks | Selective

This selective explores the relationships between poetry and medicine, as well as exploring the importance of pathos-based relationships between medical professionals and patients. The selective includes reading and discussing the work of poet-physicians and poet-patients.

Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS)

Longitudinal | Global Health, Selective

POCUS is a safe, rapid, and portable imaging modality that is used by many specialties. Training in this discipline is now being integrated into residency programs for emergency medicine, anesthesia, internal medicine, primary care, OB/GYN, and pediatrics.

Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS)

1-2 weeks | Global Health, Selective

Learn the basics of ultrasound including: 1) Image acquisition (choosing the correct probe, finding an acoustic window, how to optimize the image), 2) Interpreting the image (with an emphasis will be placed on recognizing normal anatomy, physiology and common diagnostic errors).

Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile

3-8 weeks | Global Health, Research

Research experience at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile for a minimum of 4 weeks, with the potential for longer experiences if approved by both institutions

Practical Data Science for Medical Students

Medical students will be trained on the principles of data science through guided mentorship on a data science project of their interest.

This experience encompasses a year(s)-long mentorship between medical students and pre-medical students. Pre-Med Insight leaders gain the opportunity to develop as educators, mentors, equity advocates, and administrators.
