The six-year Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency Program at Mayo Clinic Rochester adopts a mentorship model of training that assigns each resident to a single faculty member (Consultant Plastic Surgeon) for two-month rotations. During this time, you will be responsible for all operating room cases, outpatient clinics, and inpatient care under the supervision of one Consultant Plastic Surgeon.

This educational continuity allows graduated progression of knowledge and technical skills with 1:1 mentorship at all levels of your training. Your clinical training covers all subspecialty areas of plastic surgery and you will assume increasing responsibility for patient care pre-operatively, operatively, and post-operatively over the course of your residency.

Residents in the Integrated Plastic Surgery Program are anticipated to meet all required index case numbers and ACGME milestones by the time they enter the Chief Resident year.

Arizona rotation

As a PGY-4 resident, you will spend two months rotating in Scottsdale, Arizona at a private facial aesthetic surgery practice (Paradise Valley Cosmetic Center) under the mentorship of Daniel Shapiro, M.D. (Director of Aesthetic Surgical Training).

Elective rotation

As a Chief Resident, you will have the opportunity to arrange a one-month elective rotation in any subspecialty area and institution of your choosing. Elective rotations must meet the criteria set by the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education and be approved by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Recent elective rotations include:
