The most important sign of the success of any training program is how its graduates fare. Some graduates of the Family Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, have pursued academic appointments. One-third of the graduates are practicing in a rural or underserved setting, and one-third of the graduates are practicing obstetrics.

At the conclusion of the Family Medicine Residency, you may wish to continue your graduate medical education at Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education. Fellowships are available in preventive medicine, geriatrics, hospital medicine, women’s health, and more. Your program director can provide more information about these opportunities.

Mayo Clinic often recruits staff physicians from its own training programs, so when you successfully complete the Family Medicine Residency, job opportunities may be available at one of Mayo Clinic's group practices.

Here’s what a few of our graduates have to say about their experience in the program.

Everyone in this program is sincere, kind, and helpful. It starts with its leadership and is reflected in every resident, nurse, and clinical staff member. Having such a collegial culture within a system that promises the education and training Mayo Clinic offers made my decision very clear. I'm incredibly grateful that I've been given the opportunity to train at the Mayo Clinic Family Medicine Residency in Rochester and Kasson.

I was impressed with the program when I came as a visiting fourth year medical student. I enjoyed the collegial feel of the residency and overall culture of Mayo. I found that the program had unparalleled intentionality of teaching integrated into the resident curriculum. The resources available for patient care such as curbsiding specialists, AskMayoExpert, technology, advanced procedures, etc., are very accessible and provide a great opportunity to learn. Kasson Clinic was also a significant factor in my decision, as it provides the opportunity to care for real Minnesotans while maintaining some autonomy away from a larger facility
