Curriculum
Clinical and laboratory training
During the Advanced Hematology Fellowship, you spend time in the inpatient and outpatient settings with management of acute and chronic hematologic disorders and supportive care of the patients.
Some of the time is spent conducting clinical or laboratory research with laboratory investigators. Basic science projects also are available in cooperation with colleagues in biochemistry, experimental pathology, immunology, molecular biology, molecular genetics, and pharmacology.

Call frequency
The call schedule is different for each rotation. Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science follows the recommendations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Research training
Research opportunities at Mayo Clinic are outstanding. You are encouraged to participate in research projects with the consulting staff, which include clinical studies and laboratory-based projects.
Didactic training
Clinical conferences, seminars, small discussion groups, journal clubs and one-on-one instruction are all integral parts of this fellowship. These include hematology core and clinical conferences, and hematology visiting-faculty dinners.
Teaching opportunities
You have the opportunity to teach trainees rotating through similar assignments.
Evaluation
To ensure that you gain proficiency and develop corresponding technical skills, your performance is monitored carefully throughout the Advanced Hematology Fellowship. You are formally evaluated by supervising faculty members on a regular basis and meet with the program director to review these evaluations. In addition, you regularly evaluate the faculty to confirm that your educational goals are being met.
