Clinical and administrative training

As a combined PGY-1/PGY-2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership with Masters residency program, academic years are largely broken down into clinical (PGY-1) and administrative training (PGY-2).

The first year of the program is devoted to comprehensive clinical training as a member of an interdisciplinary team. A breadth of learning experiences has been designed to increase and refine clinical competency, provide evidence-based pharmacotherapeutic care plans, and develop your confidence as an independent practitioner. Quality improvement, research, and education-related experiences will complement other PGY-1 residents while you also begin work on a master’s degree.

The second year of the program includes a curriculum focused on development and refinement of pharmacy administration and leadership skills. As a contributing member of the Department of Pharmacy leadership team, you will rotate through a broad array of practice and operational settings while completing various projects aimed at strategic initiatives, regulatory requirements, and other high-priority needs.

Information on required and elective learning experience for the PGY-1 and PGY-2 academic year are outlined below.

Staffing commitment

All PGY-1 residents provide 32 hours of staffing every four weeks. Staffing may include a combination of weekend and evening experiences to maintain operational and clinical pharmacy competency and knowledge. No formal on-call program exists.

In the PGY-2 year, the staffing commitment is reduced to 24 hours every four weeks. The staffing location is tailored based on resident input and departmental need.
