Student experiences
The challenging, high-quality curriculum for the Advanced Cardiovascular Sonography Program is designed with courses in a specific sequence to progressively build expertise as students advance through the program. Academic coursework is coordinated with clinical rotations to optimize the learning experience.
Classroom learning
The didactic portion of the Advanced Cardiovascular Sonography Program is completed online. Online course content originates from the Rochester campus with the option of web conference interaction.
Hands-on clinical rotations
During clinical rotations, students gain experience in Mayo Clinic's echocardiography laboratories, focusing on the role of the advanced cardiovascular sonographer (ACS). During all clinical rotations, students work under the supervision of highly qualified cardiologists and credentialed advanced cardiovascular sonographers.

Grading and evaluation
Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences uses these evaluative tools: examinations, hands-on simulation to demonstrate mastery of skills, self-assessment exercises, and faculty reviews.
Our system of evaluation provides students and faculty with a comprehensive look at individual performance. This allows faculty and administrative staff to direct students who are experiencing academic difficulty to the appropriate support resources, including tutoring programs and counseling opportunities.
Graduation and certification
Upon completion of the program, students receive a certificate of completion from Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences. Graduates are eligible to take the Cardiovascular Credentialing International ACS credentialing examination.
